After a short foray into gentle acoustic music, Steve Tibbetts returns to what he does best, a somewhat indescribable musical hybrid that borders on jazz but is more a guitarist / percussionist’s fantasy.

This is wild shit—the drums pound, the guitar riffs flutter and fly, tapes mess around, the energy flows, and somehow it all falls together.

Tibbetts started out making his music in a home studio, with his indie Yr LP receiving enough critical acclaim and college radio play to land him a record deal. His first two ECM LPs suppressed the wilder aspects of Tibbetts’ imagination, which explode here in furious, emotive sound.

Top cuts: “Name Everything,” “Metal Summer,” “Another Year.”
